What the price can include

A monthly headline may describe only one piece. Ask for the full path from intake to medicine to follow-up.

Use this as a worksheet. A blank matters as much as a number.

Care

Visit or membership

We looked at six large online weight-loss services in September 2026; a monthly membership fee appeared at five of them. Regular plans ran from $19.99 to $149 a month, and the medicine cost extra.

Medicine

Product and dose

As of September 2026, several major weight and diabetes medicines could be bought straight from the drug company for cash. Most of those prices fell between roughly $149 and $499 a month.

The exact cash price changed with the product and dose. Some late refills cost more.

Testing

Labs and other checks

On September 26, 2026, lab companies selling blood tests directly to consumers, with no insurance involved, listed common single tests at roughly $29 to $59. Examples are a blood count or a blood-sugar (A1c) test.

Bundles on those pages ran from about $75 to $189, but the bundles did not contain the same tests.

Some pages added an order fee.

Logistics

Supplies and shipping

Ask whether the quote includes delivery, supplies, follow-up and any required repeat testing. Do not assume “all in” unless the service defines it.

One box of medicine can have five prices

They are the official list price, the drug company’s cash price, a discount-card price, the price with an insurance savings card, and a government price such as Medicare’s. Which one you see depends on whether you have insurance, what kind, and where you buy.

In the September 2026 checks, the insurance savings-card price was for people with private insurance, not a government plan. People on Medicare can read the insurance notes for Medicare’s own price.

As of September 2026, those five price types for one branded medicine could differ by more than a thousand dollars.

A price without its type can mislead.

  • Ask which price type the quote uses.
  • Ask whether insurance will be billed.
  • Ask whether cash spending counts toward a deductible.
  • Ask what the same plan costs after any first-month offer.

Time stamp every price

Prices and offer terms move. A month and year belong next to any quoted amount.

Many of the drug companies’ cash prices and savings cards checked in September 2026 were due to expire December 31, 2026.

The printed terms did not guarantee the same price in January.

Insurance is a separate question

Coverage depends on why the medicine is prescribed, your plan’s rules and sometimes the plan’s approval in advance.
